We work hard to create products and services that provide useful and feature rich experiences for drivers. In providing our products and services, we collect certain information from our users. In this document, we describe the information we collect and how it's used and shared. By "we" or "us", we mean our company, Azuga Inc., and by "you" we refer to the users of our products and services. We take seriously our responsibility to protect the privacy of your information in accordance with this policy.
Security is important to us
We use industry-leading security practices like industry standard (128-bit AES) encryption on all data transmitted from the Azuga device to the cloud so your information cannot be accessed by intruders. Ensuring your data is secure is one of the reasons we team up with the leading hardware provider.
Your data is yours. It's our job to make sure it
stays that way.
The data created when you drive is securely hosted on our servers and is yours for the purpose of the Azuga Insight program. We provide many ways for you to access your data, like our web portal and our mobile app. You can stop using Azuga Insight at any time and ask us to permanently delete your data from our servers at any time.
We provide you options on who has access to your
We have partnerships in the works where you will be able to grant access to your data to third party apps and services, like IFTTT or Alexa. A simple dialog will let you know which data they're requesting access to, and then you decide whether to share it. We will never sell or share your personally identifiable information, like name, where you drive, or VIN. However, to your benefit, we may work with partners in offering up incentives for you to share your data - you get to decide how much and for how long. In the rare case of a request by law enforcement or government, we will make sure you know what is happening.
Your anonymized data is useful to others.
We use aggregated, anonymized data to do research on transportation patterns and vehicle performance and even things like road surface analysis in order to develop new and exciting products and services. We also create internal reports that are based on aggregated and anonymized data-they will never contain any of your personally identifying information.
What information does Azuga collect?
Using our services, drivers gain access to information on the use and operation of their vehicles to enhance the driving experience and improve vehicle performance. Our services ("Services") are enabled by a hardware device which plugs into your vehicle (the "Azuga Device" or "Hardware"), a smartphone app ("App"), and our website. Using the Hardware, the App, and our website, you provide us with and we collect the following types of data ("Personal Data"):
- Information from your vehicle's onboard computer;
- Information about your vehicle's operation;
- Vehicle location information;
- Personally identifiable information; and
- Information collected when you visit our website.
If you provide us with Personal Data from a location outside the United States, please be aware that the data is transferred from your location to the United States, where we and our service providers are located.
Information from your vehicle's onboard computer
To enable our Services, we collect and store information about the vehicle into which you plug the Azuga Device. Examples of the type of information we collect from the vehicle's onboard computer and sensors include: Engine diagnostic information such as malfunction indicator light status to tell us if the check engine light is on and why.
Information about your vehicle's operation
We collect information about your vehicle's operation to provide you with feedback on your driving habits. For example, we collect data from the vehicle speed sensor, which helps us to calculate mileage; and acceleration and deceleration, which help determine mileage and smooth driving behavior. Using this information, we provide you with insight into your driving habits that can help you save on gas and vehicle wear and tear. We require your vehicle identification number so that we can ensure that the information we are gathering pertains to the correct vehicle year make and model.
Vehicle location information
If you use an advanced device, we collect information on the location of your vehicle, including your trip and the parked location of your vehicle. Trip logs allow you to review a particular route that you've driven, the fuel cost associated with that route, and the length of time the particular route takes to drive. Parked vehicle location information enables the App feature that helps you to find your parked vehicle. The App uses your smartphone's location services (GPS) to record its location as you drive.
Personally Identifiable Information (PII)
Examples of personally identifiable information we collect include your name, email address, and shipping address when you enroll in one of our RUC programs on our website.
Information we collect when you visit our website
Who has access to the information Azuga collects?
Azuga engineers and customer support personnel have role-based access to your information so that we can provide support to you when you contact us for help. Except as provided below, we do not share your Personal Data with third parties without your explicit permission:
Third parties performing business-related functions
We sometimes work with other companies to perform certain business-related functions, such as processing payments. In these cases, we only provide the companies with the information they need to perform their specific function.
Third parties offering incentives
We sometimes work with partners that would like to offer up incentives to our customers in exchange for their data for a set period of time. We will notify you of these opportunities when they come up and leave it completely up to you if you want to participate or not. The decision to share your data is completely up to you.
It is possible that we may need to disclose Personal Data when required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if Azuga has a good faith belief that disclosure is reasonably necessary to (1) enforce our Terms & Conditions, investigate and defend ourselves against any third-party claims or allegations, or protect the security or integrity of our products; or (2) exercise or protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, personnel, or the public. We attempt to notify users about legal demands for their data when appropriate in our judgment, unless prohibited by law or court order or when the request is an emergency. We may dispute such demands when we believe, in our discretion, that the requests are overbroad, vague, or lack proper authority, but we do not commit to challenge every demand.
Anonymized and aggregated data
We anonymize and aggregate the data we collect across many users and may share this aggregated data with our affiliates, business partners, and users. The aggregated data does not identify you personally. We may also disclose aggregated user statistics in order to describe Azuga to current and prospective business partners and to third parties for other lawful purposes. Examples of anonymized and aggregate data include the average mileage per year for our users, and the average monthly fuel usage.
By using our Service, you provide us with permission to share your information with the parties described above.
To provide you with an enhanced user experience, you may choose to share your information with third parties through our App or website. In these circumstances, we will not share your Personal Data without your explicit permission, usually in the form of a web page, email or app screen where you authorize such sharing of information. Examples of where you may want to provide us with permission to share your Personal Data with third parties include:
We want you to get the most value out of your Azuga experience and may present offers from trusted partners to provide a solution that we think would make your car ownership or driving experience better. For example, we might partner with an insurance company that is willing to give you an insurance discount if you choose to share your data related to mileage or behavior. These opportunities will always be user "opt-in" only.
Is my Personal Data stored securely?
We use best-in-class security systems and practices designed to protect your information and to prevent unauthorized access to your data. Examples of our security practices include:
Sensitive user data, such as account passwords and email addresses, are stored in encrypted format.
All communications through our website are sent over SSL/TLS connections. Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) technology protect communications by using both server authentication and data encryption. This ensures that user data in transit is safe, secure, and available only to intended recipients.
Is there a way to delete my information?
We store the information described above on the Azuga Link, in the App, and on our servers. To permanently delete your information, please follow these steps:
Delete the App from your smartphone.
Write to us at email@example.com and ask us to delete your account. We will then delete your account. Given how our backup systems work, your data may remain in our backups for some time after we delete it from our servers.
